Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing
D’Youville’s Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing is seeking an outstanding candidate to join our faculty in a tenure-earning position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank to provide leadership in the areas of teaching, service and scholarly activity in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. This outstanding program has strong outcomes, with graduates’ first-time pass rates for the certification exam consistently in the mid-90s. The program has been taught primarily in a face-to-face format, and has launched an online program with approval through the New York State Education Department. This program offers an exceptional opportunity to expand the program and its impact on the delivery of primary healthcare in Western New York and beyond. The faculty member will teach in the online FNP program and be eligible for appointment as the Program Director for the FNP Online Program. Faculty members in the Patricia H. Garman (PHG SON) School of Nursing are responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs in a shared governance setting. Their responsibilities include teaching, service, and scholarship. D’Youville ascribes to the Boyer model of scholarship, including the scholarship of teaching, discovery, application, integration, and engagement.
The incumbent of this position will assure the use of best practices in online advanced practice education. The use of these evidence-based approaches to online education will lead to stellar program outcomes, student and alumni satisfaction, and strong contributions to healthcare delivery in Western New York, across the state, and around the nation. The FNP program at D’Youville University was implemented only few years ago, and offers the opportunity for an innovative advanced practice educator to work closely with faculty colleagues to grow the program.
Regular activities include reviewing and developing or revising course materials, teaching, assessment of student learning, meeting with students, and working with admissions and student services. Faculty regularly attend meetings the full faculty of the PHG SON as well as of committees and teams. The PHG SON is represented on the Faculty Senate and on numerous university-wide teams and committees. The PHG SON is currently exploring the establishment of a community nursing clinic at the Health Professions Hub on campus.
- Hold an earned doctorate in nursing or a closely related field from an institutionally accredited college or university.
- Hold a Master’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Be certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners
- Hold an unencumbered license to practice as a family nurse practitioner in New York, or licensure in another state in the US with eligibility for licensure in New York. A New York license is required for service as a faculty member.
- Demonstrate advanced practice experience in the clinical setting as a Family Nurse Practitioner sufficient to demonstrate proficiency
- Demonstrated proficiency with online nursing education, ideally as a student and as a faculty member
- Demonstrate a beginning level of teaching, research, and service for appointment as an Assistant Professor.
- Five years of academic experience in nursing in the higher education setting, with a strong record of teaching, service, and scholarship are required to warrant appointment as an Associate Professor.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to support the education of students, program reports, and scholarly dialogue.

- Maintain professional competence and certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner
- Advise and mentor graduate FNP nursing students
- Hold regular times for students to meet as outlined by the School of Nursing
- Interact and establish excellent interpersonal and collaborative relationships with students, faculty, administrators, staff, the Dean, School of Nursing Leadership team, and the larger D’Youville community
- Participate in strategic planning initiatives within the Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing and D’Youville University to build programs and resources, affiliate to create new opportunities, and innovate to transform nursing education
- Have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods in the instructional setting
- Possess the dexterity to operate a computer, diagnostic equipment; and use other instructional equipment
- Have the capacity to read, speak, and respond to students
- Be capable of performing light to moderate lifting, pushing, or pulling of equipment
