School of Nursing - Director of Online Family Nurse Practitioner Program

General Statement of Duties:

The Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing Leadership Team members shall be responsible for the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development and general effectiveness of their respective program(s).  The Director of Online Family Nurse Practitioner Program, as a member of the School of Nursing Leadership Team, is preferred to be on campus a minimum of one day per week and as needed for other administrative obligations.

Examples of Duties:

Under the direction of the SON Dean or Chair/Associate Dean, responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Direct program delivery process to include assessment of student learning in online platform which meets NC-SARA and NYSED requirements
  • Support online FNP program enrollment marketing efforts as well as evaluate applications, interview candidates for admission, advise, plan program courses, track retention, liaise with D’Youville’s Dean of Online Learning
  • Plan, organize, schedule and oversee mandatory on-campus immersion experiences including assuring facilities and accommodations are arranged
  • Provide information to the Chair/Associate Dean to help with assigning of faculty course load assignments based on academic preparation and clinical expertise 
  • Represent and support the best interests of D’Youville and the School of Nursing among internal and external stakeholders
  • 6.. Promote the well-being, support, and recognition of faculty, students, and alumni 
  • Administer and submit regulatory or specialized accreditation reporting to Chair/ Associate Dean/Dean
  • Develop new programs internally and prepare for NYSED approval
  • Examines program outcomes, including retention, graduation, and success on certifying examinations (American Nurses Credentialing Center/American Association of Nurse Practitioners) assuring curricular review and program evaluation to assure program outcomes are at or above national averages 
  • Act as a liaison between online learning staff, various external stakeholders, clinical facilities, and the College to include the development of new articulation agreements
  • Help the Chair/Associate Dean and School of Nursing Faculty Search committee with the recruitment of full time and adjunct faculty and staff 
  • Assist with the development of annual and 5-year program goals as well as strategic planning
  • Collaborate in writing grant proposals and securing external funding resources
  • Help Chair/Associate Dean with the orientation of new full time and adjunct faculty 
  • Maintain minutes of program committee meetings with support of Administrative Assistant
  • Counsel students regarding their education as well as their professional development 
  • Advise Chair/Associate Dean and Dean on faculty and student concerns 
  • Collaborate with clinical liaisons and clinical coordinators in selection of clinical sites 
  • Serve as a representative and liaison between the School of Nursing and the College 
  • Assist in the supervision, development, monitoring, and updating of departmental strategic planning
  • Maintain professional competence and required clinical practice
  • Monitors and assures accuracy of course scheduling, student files, and course syllabi
  • Represent the School of Nursing faculty at college events, especially if the events directly pertain to the program being overseen by the Director
  • Represent the School of Nursing on appropriate college wide committees
  • Contribute to the School of Nursing Newsletter as appropriate
  • Assures that publications for the School of Nursing (for example, college catalog, School of Nursing handbooks, School of Nursing website) are accurate and up to dater as they pertain to the FNP Online program
  • Confer with faculty on development of new and revised course and programs
  • Any other unique, discipline and online modality specific responsibilities including those required by an accrediting body as identified by Associate Dean or Dean 


Department leaders, in consultation with their respective faculties, shall be responsible to the Dean or their designee for the supervision of the personnel and the implementation of the educational programs of the department for which they serve. Department leaders shall have such other powers, duties, and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chair/Associate Dean or Dean.  Must maintain current RN licensure in addition to national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for all School of Nursing leadership positions:

  • Knowledge of CCNE and NYSED standards, in addition to specific standards (i.e: CCNE, NONPF, AACN, AANP)
  • Discipline specific credentials and other requirements as specified by an accreditor (if applicable)
  • An earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree in the field in which he or she is teaching or a closely allied field. 
  • A minimum of five (5) years of effective teaching experience at the college level 
  • Exceptional competence in his or her field
  • Leadership and administrative capabilities 

Waiver of one or more of the above qualifications may be permitted when the candidate demonstrates strength in other designated areas
